2. Let it sit for 3-4 minutes.

High Porosity Hair – The Sponge Effect**

If your hair sinks quickly in the water, congrats, you’ve got high porosity hair! High porosity hair absorbs and releases moisture fast, but it can be prone to frizz and tangles. You might also notice that your hair dries quickly after washing, gets wet easily in humid weather, and tangles easily. The cuticles of high porosity hair are open, which is why it acts like a sponge, absorbing moisture and products quickly.

Detangling & Pre-Poo Tips

High porosity hair needs extra care when detangling. Here are some suggestions:
– Try finger detangling or a seamless wide-tooth comb from the bottom up. Be gentle to avoid breakage and damage to the fragile strands.
– Pre-poo with options like Unrefined Coconut Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, or Anti-Humectants. Pre-pooing helps create a barrier and prevents your hair from absorbing too much water during the washing process. If your hair strands stay floating even after 3 minutes, you have low porosity hair. Your hair cuticles are closed, making it hard for moisture to penetrate. Low porosity hair might appear dry, and it can be more resistant to product absorption. Here’s what you need:

Low porosity hair benefits from lightweight oils that can penetrate the cuticles easily. Consider using Apricot, Argan, Jojoba, Hempseed, Grapeseed, Sweet Almond, or Pomegranate oils. Pre-poo treatments are not always necessary for low porosity hair unless you have product buildup or visible dryness.

When shampooing, use clarifying shampoos occasionally to remove product buildup and open up the cuticles. However, be careful not to use them too frequently, as they can strip your hair of its natural oils and cause dryness.
