No! I never pictured myself squatting over hot herbal steam all in the name of finally getting some relief from my crazy cramps and absent menses. Yoni steaming sounded so crazy to me that it took me a very long time to finally try it and when I did, I couldn’t stop singing its praises to friends and family. Before we move on to the steams let us go over some foundational information.

What is PCOS? and does Yoni steam help with PCOS?

PCOS is a condition that affects 1 in 10 women (including myself). You are not alone. It is such a common condition and yet the medical community doesn’t seem to be taking it seriously enough. This may be because there’s no ‘cure” for PCOS, but there are definitely things we can do to manage our symptoms naturally. Yoni steaming is one of these things. The practice of yoni steaming has been around for centuries, and it is only now being brought into mainstream medicine with more research being done on its benefits.

What is Yoni Steaming? or Vaginal Steaming?

Yoni steaming is a natural, holistic way to cleanse your uterus and balance your hormones. It can help with PMS symptoms, cramping, infertility issues, and many other aspects of PCOS. Yoni means “vagina” in Sanskrit; steam is used because heat opens up the pores of the skin so that it absorbs better.

The temperatures used vary from person to person but are typically anywhere from 110-125 degrees Fahrenheit (43-52 degrees Celsius). The herbs used depend on what you want to treat but usually include mugwort or calendula as well as some kind of flower-like rose petals or lavender buds.

When you steam your vagina for 10–20 minutes at these temperatures every week or two weeks this helps reduce inflammation which helps with hormonal imbalances associated with PCOS because inflammation impacts hormone regulation in the body.

As with any health-related topic, we recommend that you consult your doctor before starting any new treatment program or diet plan.

When to Yoni Steam and when Not to Steam

If you’re wondering whether or not to Yoni steam, here are some things to consider:

  • Yoni steam is best done just before your period. It’s important to note that yoni steaming is not recommended for pregnant women, women with vaginal infections (bacterial vaginosis, yeast infections), or women with vaginal dryness.
  • You should also avoid yoni steaming if you’ve recently given birth and/or have stitches in your perineum.
  • While everyone’s body reacts differently to this treatment, it can help after sexual trauma as well as postpartum.
  • Yoni steaming may help relieve cramps or other symptoms associated with PMS and endometriosis; however, it will not stop menstruation from happening naturally so please don’t rely on it for contraception!

As we discussed earlier, you can make your own recipe based on what you will like to accomplish. It’s important to be aware that there are many ways to make yoni steam, so you may have different experiences with different recipes.

Here are 9 herbs that can help heal PCOS naturally through vaginal steaming

Mugwort is a herb that’s been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine. It can be used to help support the female reproductive system, regulate the menstrual cycle, and regulate hormone levels.

Mugwort is often recommended as a natural treatment for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). This is because it helps balance hormone levels which can help ease symptoms like acne and excess facial hair.

Mugwort also has antispasmodic properties which can help relax tense muscles in your stomach, back and thighs.

Mugwort helps to promote suppressed menstrual cycle, so if you experience missing period, then you want to add this to your recipe

In closing

I love yoni steaming because it is a super simple and all-natural alternative to the invasive fertility treatments out there. I would suggest that you invest in tools that can make the practice simpler to execute. Things like yoni steam Kit with cushion seat and herbs and or stainless steel bowls for sitz bath. This is my favorite method for Yoni steaming.

You may also find pre-mixed Yoni steam herbs, here is an option from a small business Magicallyliving or Female Rituals on Amazon.
